ABOUT
“The world of feelings is a maze.
Even that keeps changing all the time.
I don’t think therefore a work of art should help the viewer settle the matter of interpretation prematurely.
Why should we always express sadness with tears or joy with a smile?;
it only reinforces the viewer’s common habits.
A work of art should be like a poem open to many different interpretations,
an expression distilled by the artist’s own language
and capable of handling sustained attentions from those who take interest in it.
When it succeeds in arousing an altogether unfamiliar sensibility on the part of the viewer, it has done the job it was supposed to.
Which implies a possibility of asking questions.
The viewer then discovers his or her own way of thinking.
If not art, what else will empower us in this way? I think art is the only one that has that power.”
