“What was once rapidly built high-rise apartment buildings are now being razed in the name of redevelopment. 

Going around these buildings, 

I have been collecting some of the old furniture put out by their departing owners, 

especially the ones mass-produced in cheap, synthetic materials. 

The cheaper the furniture, the more flamboyant the ornaments. 

But their run is over. They are no longer wanted. 

Their fall is as dramatic as the fate of the high-rise apartments they once furnished. 

I think about their owners. Were they ashamed? If so, at what? 

At the thought of furnishing their new fancier apartments with these cheap pieces with loud ornaments? 

A painful reminder of their old selves who burned with such aspirations? 

Not any more? Sure? Burning all the same, no?”
