ABOUT

There are two strands in Kim’s paintings that run parallel to each other. 

One is surrealist in the conventional sense of the term, represented the “Strawberry” series; 

she relies on the accepted rules of representation so that she could twist or break them as she saw fit. 

The use of strawberries either as a metaphor or red-herring is fascinating and certainly eye-catching in its own right, 

but it breaks no new ground; she is still firmly in the familiar territory of representation. 

The other strand involves a conceptual rethinking, which takes her away from that familiar world, 

and it is none other than those little balls of pigments bunched up in various configurations 

and thrown into the world of representation like some nasty bombs. 

Will these two strands ever come to cross paths? Stay tuned.
